Reverend Cedric Keith Brown, was born the second of four children to the proud parents of James and Doris Brown on July 1, 1962 in Birmingham Alabama. After graduating from Birmingham Public School, he went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Tuskegee University. While at Tuskegee, he gained his greatest joy marching up and down the gridiron as “Downtown Cedric Brown”, the head drum major of the acclaimed Marching Crimson Piper Band. After graduation from Tuskegee, Reverend Brown moved to the Washington DC area to work as an air traffic controller with his current employer, the Federal Aviation Administration. In 1992 after returning from a one year tour of duty in Saudi Arabia supporting the Persian Gulf conflict Reverend Brown answered the call of God to the gospel ministry. He was licensed and ordained at Union Temple Baptist Church in Washington DC and received the Master of Divinity degree from Howard University at the turn of the century.
In 1995 Reverend Brown heard God say, “Birmingham in 2002”. He understood that God was instructing him to move his family back to Birmingham in 2002. Over the next seven years God orchestrated a plan of transition to Birmingham that caused Reverend Brown and his family to arrive in Birmingham just in time to celebrate New Years Day 2002. Just as God had spoken it! The next question then was, “what next in ministry?” After all, he did marry in 1992, Ingrid Irons, one of the most gifted gospel musicians in Birmingham. Surely, God had a plan for ministry for them to work together using their ministry gifts in the same church. Just as God had orchestrated the move to Birmingham, He also orchestrated a ministry opportunity that made room for both of their giftings.
In 2005 God opened the window of opportunity for Reverend Brown to assume his first pastoral assignment as the Senior Pastor of The New City Church. Not only was there room for his gifting but also for Ingrid as the Director of the church’s music department. God is using them in a mighty way to affect the congregation of New City with their undying love for God and for His people.
Pastor Cedric and Sister Ingrid have been married (1992) for 13 years and are the proud parents of three wonderful children who love the Lord: Kaylin Alyse, Aaron Keith and Nathan Mikkel.
