Our History......
The New City Church was founded in 1991 under the divine power of the Holy Spirit and the effective leadership of Pastor Gerald Austin, Sr. and his wife, Minister Gwen Dees-Austin. The Austins, along with twelve additional families and much prayer, formed the The New City Church. They endeavored to "Work Together to Reach The City" of Birmingham, by influencing culture with the values of the kingdom.
Today, after many years of work, prayer, and effective evangelism, The New City Church stands in the heart of downtown Birmingham as a catalyst for renewal in the area. Through the ministries of the church and the outreach programs of our sister organization, The Center For Urban Missions (TCUM), many lives have been transformed from insufficiency to wholeness.
The New City Church became a part of the Evangelical Covenant Church in December 2005. This union continues to open doors to greater community development opportunities and spiritual accountability.
As a model for transitional leadership, Pastor Gerald passed his pastoral mantel to Pastor Cedric Brown in April 2006. The New City Church continues to strive to take the Word of God from the pulpit to the street through effective evangelism and a spirit of love.
The climate of The New City Church welcomes all people regardless of race, gender, or socio-economic status to join us in worshipping the Lord in Spirit and Truth.
